Bathroom Safety

The bathroom is one of the most dangerous places in the home. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) an estimates 234,000 nonfatal bathroom injuries were treated in U.S. emergency departments in 2008. An amazing 81% of all bathroom injuries were caused by slips and falls, 14% involved toileting plus another (37%) occur while bathing, showering, or getting out of the tub. While everyone is subject to injuries, seniors are especially vulnerable.

The question is how to make the bathroom a safer place so that seniors can remain in their home longer, with dignity. Some of the items to consider in making the bathroom a safer place are shower chairs, grab bars, shower wands, transfer benches, tub rails,  raised toilet seats, and toilet safety frames.
